Scandinavian Midsummer Celebration
June 22, 2002

The celebration of midsummer is a cultural event recognizing the longest day of the year. It begins with the gathering of fresh green leaves and flowers which are attached to the Midsummer pole. The pole is raised by hand by a group of men. Once the pole is lifted the celebration continues with traditional songs and having kids dance around the pole. Later the celebration includes the band playing festive music that people can dance to late into the long summer evening.
